Provincial Grand Master presents £50,000 cheque to the Macular Society

On Monday 5th January 2015 the Provincial Grand Master, Mike Wilks and his wife, Kay Wilks visited the Headquarters of the Macular Society in Andover to present a cheque for £50,000 from The Freemasons’ Grand Charity.

The donation will go towards the roll-out of “Daily Living Champion” volunteers across the UK, helping people who have lost their sight to stay independent.

The cheque was received by the Acting Chief Executive of the Macular Society, Cathy Yelf.

The Daily Living Champions initiative demonstrates how both high and low tech equipment can help people affected by sight loss to complete tasks most of us take for granted.

This can mean unravelling the mysteries of an iPad or showing how a simple liquid level indicator can improve safety when pouring boiling water.

The Provincial Grand Master said “I was delighted to meet Cathy Yelf and her colleagues and to learn more about the life changing work carried out by this charity which Freemasons are proud to support. The Daily Living Champion Scheme is a great initiative which will now be available across the country.”
