April 2014 - The Secretary read an email from VW Bro. Ron

King, Past Grand Inspector of Workings of the Grand Lodge of

Western Australia, relating to Bro. Alan Edwards a former

member of Needles Lodge, who passed away on Wednesday 26

February 2014. A reply giving details of his initiation into

Needles Lodge on 3 December 1969 was sent to VW. Bro. King

as requested. This information will be added to a memorial plaque

to be placed on the Memorial Garden Wall of the Masonic Centre

where Bro. Alan was a member of the Peel Districts Day Lodge.

W. Bro John Martin gave details of a Needles Lodge Jewel

auctioned on eBay, which W. Bro. Rod Dennison had

successfully acquired. The enamelled silver-gilt jewel with

hallmarks for 1910 is engraved on the reverse

“PRESENTED TO WOR. BRO. H. MARFLEET P.M.

P.P.GD.STD BR AS A MARK OF HIS ESTEEM AND

GRATITUDE ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 16 YEARS

SECRETARYSHIP”.

W. Bro. Rod Dennison has gifted this jewel to the lodge which he

hopes could be presented on an annual basis to a member of the

Lodge of Instruction considered by the Worshipful Master,

Director of Ceremonies and Secretary to have made the most

progress during the year. A decision at a later meeting required

that the jewel is attached to the Secretary’s Collar, as it had been

when originally presented and then handed to successive

secretaries at installation when a new one is appointed. The

brethren all agreed and W. Bro. David Baggaley became the first

Secretary to receive it.
